How Great Leaders Inspire Action
May 08, 2025
If you're a high school student in a leadership position, you may be interested in this TED talk by Simon Sinek: How great leaders inspire action. It's one of the most popular TED talks of all time, with more than 60 million views!
We have worked with many students over the years who have titles (i.e. "president" of a club) but who are not developing their leadership skills to the fullest.
Some students are not sincere and hold titles only to build their resume. College admissions officers can spot this easily (especially through recommendation letters and interviews).
The type of student who demonstrates leadership and really stands out from the crowd is truly inspired and has a greater purpose and mission in life.
Simon Sinek presents his "simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership -- starting with a golden circle and the question: "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King Jr. and the Wright brothers."
We encourage all our students to ask "Why" and to develop empathy, collaboration, and active listening skills. Our Leadership Academy students put their skills into action by starting a club, nonprofit, or community service initiative. They also stay inspired by studying the lives of Nobel Peace Prize winners and reflecting on their experiences.
